Derby Day

Nothing is ever black and white… Except Derby Day.

The one day at Flemington where colour is frowned on and monochrome rules. The tradition is so ingrained in society that those who choose to buck the trend submit themselves to a day of tuts tuts and questioning looks from the more traditional race purists. But this year with our wardrobes well stocked with monochrome we’re ready to embrace the tradition.

With a plethora of black and white hanging in shop windows it is easy to get overwhelmed. To help you out we’ve put together five looks guaranteed to get you through the day without any tuts tuts, and just a few envious glares.

Look 1: Pretty as a picture.

If you usually go for an edgier look, Derby Day is a great opportunity to embrace your more feminine side. A sophisticated look like this calls for a strappy stiletto. The gold detail on Kristy works back perfectly with this alligator clutch by master Wang. Pop some statement studs in your ears, a sweet as sugar fascinator on your head and you’re ready to hit the canapés.

Look 2: Getting geometric.

Stripes, checks and everything in between, the geometric trend is in and we’re loving the chance to channel our inner 60s child. Pair this backless number with Golden: the perfect race day shoe. The thick heel and ankle strap will give you the stability and comfort to run around all day. Finish off the look with a dark brown mani and pedi.

Look 3: Metallic shine.

Silver is close enough to white right? In this case, yes. Pair this mesh dress with Kaiden and nude lips. Remember ladies what’s underneath also matters- a fitted corset will keep you supported all day. Just don’t do it up too tight, being able to breath is important.

Look 4: She wears the pants.

For a sexy, ‘who is that girl’ look pair a wide legged pant suit with our monochrome Adeles. Keep it classy with an old school top hat and embellished umbrella. You’ll be the most handsome girl in the room.

Look 5: There she was looking lovely in lace.

There’s something romantic about white lace. Team with loose braids, a white flower crown and Kristabelle for carefree style. The laser cut detail ties back nicely with the lace on the dress. Remember ladies- it’s all about the details.
